Arm Lift

What is an Arm Lift?

Arm lifts are also known as brachioplasty, which literally means arm reshaping. It is the process of removing excess and/or unwanted skin from the arm area using direct excision (cutting). In some cases, liposuction is also involved to achieve the desired shape of the arm post-procedure.

As we age, the skin around our arms has a tendency to droop or sag. Sagging skin is also an unfortunate byproduct of successful weight loss – either through surgery or other means. Results may vary from person to person.

The benefits of an Arm Lift

There are many benefits to arm lift body sculpting, including:

  • Removal of sagging or drooping skin, especially under the arms
  • Removal of fat deposits, especially the region of the upper arm
  • Visual definition of arm muscles
  • Tightening and toning of the skin on arms
  • And more…

Arm lift patients also experience increased confidence in their general appearance, which benefits their quality of life.

Results may vary from person to person.

The Procedure

Typically performed using only general anesthesia, some surgeons may opt to inject additional numbing medicine when you are “under” as a means by which to alleviate post-procedure pain.

A small incision will be made along your upper arm, and extending down to the elbow. Sometimes, excess fat is removed through liposuction. Then, excess skin will be trimmed and tightened. Finally, the area will be sutured into place.

Dr. DeMercurio’s staff takes great care to use the minimum incision possible to reduce pain and potential scarring.

The Recovery

Most patients do not experience any severe discomfort during or after the arm lift body sculpting process. Any pain associated with the procedure is typically remedied by use of prescription pain medicine as directed by the surgeon.

Though some scarring may occur, most patients do not experience noticeable scars. In most cases, scarring lasts only a few weeks. Some patients are also able to mask any potential scars with basic body makeup, such as foundation. Post-procedure, Dr. DeMercurio’s staff will discuss scar management and topical therapies to minimize the appearance of any scars.

Most arm lift patients are able to get “back to normal” within two weeks. Exercise routines are typically able to be resumed within four to six weeks.

Results may vary from person to person.
